How is your FLUGTAG?

OH SAY CAN YOU SINK? Flugtag is a "flying competition" where groups of contestants put together contraptions and see which one can fly the farthest. The first Flugtag, which means "flying day" in German, was held in Vienna Austria. There have since been about 30 of them held around the world. On October 21, 2006 the Flugtag came to Baltimore. Red Bull, the energy drink, sponsors all the Flugtags. Here are some photos as 70,000 people looked on as 23 teams "flew" into the harbor. It really should be called a swimming competition since the farthest flight was all of 81 feet - which set a new United States record quite by accident I'm sure! THE SETTING - BALTIMORE'S INNER HARBOR - BEFORE THE COMPETITION! THE "FLIGHT DECK" IS IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER THE COMPETITION BEGAN WITH THE RED BULL AIR FORCE 4 CRAZY PEOPLE JUMPED OUT OF A HELICOPTER A MILE ABOVE DOWNTOWN AND LANDED ON THE FLIGHT DECK AND THE CROWD LOVED IT! SO DID THE PEOPLE ON THE 50 TUG BOATS THAT WERE PARADING BY FOR A DIFFERENT EVENT SOME OF THE "TEAMS" FEDERAL HILL GOT CROWDED AS DID THE REST OF THE HARBOR PEOPLE SCORED THE NUTS ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10 WITH 10 BEING THE BEST AS PEOPLE PACKED THE SCIENCE CENTER ROOF AND THE CRAFTS WERE PUSHED DOWN THE FLIGHT DECK AND INTO THE HARBOR!
