skyline vs. mountains

Perception issue here; is the eye tricked: a major skyline in front of you looks as large or even larger than a mountain range looming ahead (far taller than the skyline) becase the degree of details, the refinementm and definiton and of detail the skyline posses. agree? disagree?>
